our story

A love story that began with a tiny pair of opening eyes.

From Berlin, with love — meet the family behind Adonis, a diabetic kitty who became the icon of Catitude.

a note from us

Hi from Berlin

Thank you so much for the love and support you've shown our little family. We're Roxy, David, Adonis, and Anabelita — a household built on cuddles, snacks, and a whole lot of catitude. Everything you see here is made with care, from our home in Berlin, with our cats curled up nearby.

WHERE IT BEGAN

A Sweet girl Caty.

Adonis’s story begins long before he was born—back in Ecuador, where his cat mom, Roxy, had raised a beloved 7 year old kitty named Caty. In 2011, Roxy moved to Savannah, Georgia to pursue a Master in Motion Media Design, leaving Caty behind with her family — she was an outdoor cat who wouldn't have adjusted to life indoors. In 2012, Caty developed kidney failure, and Roxy never got to say goodbye in person. Heartbroken, she wanted to do something meaningful in her name. That's how she signed up to foster kittens at the Humane Society of Savannah, Georgia.

It was supposed to be temporary—just a three-month commitment... But if you’re here, you already know that’s not how things went

the life-changing moment

His eyes opened, and he met his Madre.

The shelter had two mother cats needing foster care: one was gentle and affectionate, while the other was feisty, scared, and just so happened to look like Caty. Roxy didn’t hesitate—that was a sign.  The kittens were only 10 days old when they arrived. And as Roxy held a tiny newborn in her hands, his eyes opened for the first time. That was Adonis.

HE HAD ALREADY DECIDED

he knew—he wasn’t going anywhere.

While his siblings napped together, he preferred curling up in bed with her. Crying for her presence the entire day. The bond was undeniable, but Roxy still tried to stay logical. When it was time to return the kittens for adoption, she packed a special new bed and a carrier to send with him to his future home. Roxy drove them to the shelter, as they had to be neutered to be ready in three days for adoption.

FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER, ROXY PULLED OVER AND CALLED THE SHELTER

"He's mine. Please tell him mama is coming to get him."

The day Adonis became hers.

INSEPARABLE

From Savannah to Berlin — together, always.

Adonis traveled with Roxy from his first months — a summer in Charlotte, another year in Savannah, then Brooklyn — before they moved to Germany together in 2014. There she met David — and unlike anyone else before, Adonis liked him on the spot.

The Spanish Royal arrival.

A year later, Anabelita joined the family. She'd spent her first year as queen of the streets — until a shelter catnapped her up and flew her to Germany. She arrived with strong opinions, a real talent for boundaries, and a true gift for the dignified beauty nap.

the diabetes journey

Learning to live with feline diabetes.

Adonis had no health issues until the fall of 2022, while the family was visiting relatives in Ecuador. His health began declining, and in January 2023 he was diagnosed with diabetes. Despite immediate insulin treatment, he kept getting worse — and at the time, no one knew his vet was applying outdated diabetes protocols.

Roxy went looking for a Facebook group, hoping for emotional support and a way to connect with other cat parents going through the same thing. That's how she found the Feline Diabetes Support Group — a community run entirely by volunteers, and one she will always be grateful to. The group hand-held her through learning to properly manage Adonis's diabetes, and helped her vet the right next vet — a knowledgeable veterinarian in Berlin, found once she was back home in Germany. He was impressed by how much she'd already learned and has been an incredible support to Adonis ever since. Daily home glucose testing became the foundation of his health — and Roxy's peace of mind.

Once Roxy got the hang of it, she started giving back. She read the guides, learned as much as she could, and eventually became a Group Expert — one of the volunteers helping other frightened cat parents find their footing. When the admins asked her to take over the group's Instagram page, it sparked something: she began creating light, approachable content about feline diabetes.

Then came the Adonis videos — at first, just to show how it's done. And, well... the rest is history.

When Roxy started sharing those videos, she never imagined they'd grow into a community this kind and supportive. 🐾

    Cat Madre & Creative Director

Role: The one Adonis actually talks to — loud, demanding, often mid-meeting. She runs the brand, films the content, edits the videos, and answers every comment. Motion designer by training, mama by promotion. Ecuadorian, fluent in cat.

  • David Heidrich

    Cat Padre & Anabelita’s fave!

Officially the only one of Roxy's dates Adonis didn't protest by chewing his belongings — which, in this world, is basically a marriage proposal. Keeps the kitties stocked with the good food, the nice fountains, and is the designated driver on the adventure trips or vet trips.

  • Anabelita

    Little Sister · Daddy’s Girl

Divas don’t take roles—they make them!

Adopted after one year bringing in Spanish royal vibes. Shy until treats are involved, then suddenly very social. Knows she's a beauty. Witnesses everything, judges most of it, and will allow cuddles from madre on a rare moon.

our mission

Raise awareness & Inspire empathy.

Feline diabetes is hard, expensive, and isolating — we lived it. That's why we keep the knowledge we share through Adonis 100% free. Our merch store, watching our videos and the occasional treat you send Adonis are what keep it that way. If our content helps one more family avoid the months of confusion we went through, the whole journey is worth it.
